What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

Halloween is Over… Now What?!

Okay, fam, we may have gone a little overboard with the Halloween candy this year. We were SO ready for those trick-or-treaters, but now we’re staring down a mountain of mini chocolate bars and those weird, orange peanut butter things, I mean we bought them to give out but seriously who even eats those?

But fear not, fellow parents! We’re not about to let all this deliciousness go to waste. We’ve got some epic leftover candy hacks that will have you saying “Boo-yah!” to those sugary leftovers.

  1. Parent Tax

Let’s be real, this doesn’t really count as a hack, but this is the most important piece of Halloween. We braved the chilly night, we endured the endless “Happy Halloween” from the neighbors going a bit crazy, we deserve a cut! Sort through those bags and claim your favorites (maybe even calling them a danger to eat). It’s the unspoken rule of Halloween, right? 😉

But here’s the thing: the Parent Tax isn’t just about grabbing a handful of your favorites. It’s about strategy . Think long-term. Those peanut butter candies? Some say they’re good for a cheat day, but we know the kids won’t let too many of those go. The generic lollipops? They don’t work well with our sensitive hurty tooth. We’re talking about curating a collection of top-tier treats that we’re able to pocket here. We need to be crafty with our selection, carful like a ninja. Absolutely heartless pocketing some of the best treats while the kids run around asking a million questions. Oh yeah. We’re parents, not savages. We’ve earned the good stuff.

  1. Build an Emergency Stash for the Winter

This is where the parent tax comes in handy. After we’ve cherry picked the treats we like, you’ve got to hide a secret stash for those moments when you need a little pick-me-up.

I’m talking about the days ahead where we’re work from home, on meeting number 4x it’s Tuesday and we’re dragging like crazy. You know the feeling. Now that the Holidays are in full swing the weeks will be longer, those days off we’ve put in for will seem like they’ll never be here.

  1. Baking Bonanza

Now that we’ve gotten the basics out of the way, let’s look at the true “hacks” you’ve come here to see. One of the best ways to leverage that large mound of candy that the kids may have forgotten about is to use in baked recipes.

It doesn’t have to be a family holiday evening to enjoy a good ol’ cake with chopped up left over chocolate bars. Sounds good right! Sprinkle these little morsels into cookie dough, brownies, or even pancakes! Sometimes we even mix and match a few of our favs, mixing the crumbles and dust into a fancy seasonings container to be used whenever the mood strikes!

Trust us, everything tastes better with a little Halloween magic.

  1. Frozen Fun

Frozen candy? No, you wouldn’t right? Yep! Even though these things get a little weird coloration, or especially hard, we find there’s some great ways to use left over Halloween candy in the freezer!

Toss mini chocolate bars in your leftover ice cream from that birthday party you’re about to have here in November. One especially fun way to make this happen, let the ice cream be out of the freezer for a little bit, get it a little soft, and chop chop with the slap chop (do you remember that thing yeah we’ve got one)

After it’s a bit soft, the ice cream will accept that left over candy, you’ll dream about this little treat while you’re toiling away at the computer pulling together a recap to present to the management, and it’ll get your imagination going for a better story time when the kids go down.

  1. A Creative Candy Jar

Ok – stick with us on this one. This is more of a project to do with the kids, but you’ll be able to hide your candy away in your “Creative Jar” This also lets you have one more go at nicking some extras for that stash we’ve discussed a little while ago.

Find some jars around the house, or find some decretive bowls that aren’t being used. You can spray paint the insides, and decorate with some cut outs for the upcoming holidays. Go nuts with a snowy theme, bond over a good ol holiday flick and create something fun to stash your candy in after it’s all done.

The important part here is you get to spend a little time with those kids of yours, they are excited to paint something that seems mostly off limits most times, and you get a place to stash that sweet treats pile of sugary goodness.

  1. Neighborly Love

Share the wealth! Sounds like a good idea, but if you just walk over with your stinky candy, the neighbors will probably just write you off as the re-gifter of the street and you’ll have to live in shame for the rest of the time in that house.

Dress up your candy with some super quick additions, and you’ll be able to get rid of that sugary mess in no time. You’ll need popcorn and baggies . (I’ve got some ideas here and we’ve done this as a mini project with the kids, so fun!)

Make it look good, slap some candy into the mixture, try and stay with one or two brands per baggie, and you’ll be loved, and the neighbors are going to be waiving like crazy the next time you drive by!

  1. Halloween Candy Trail Mix

Look, this isn’t the most exciting one on the list, but this makes that candy disappear so quickly!

Mix those leftover candies with nuts, pretzels, and dried fruit for a customized trail mix. It’s a surprisingly quick way to use up that candy! Did someone say healthy? Nah, this is for the cheat day for sure, or those drives out to grammas house as we get to Thanksgiving, one of the best holidays out there.

The Candy Champions especially love mixing up all of M&Ms, buying some salty nuts, chocolate with the caramel in there, (yum) and do we have some of that leftover popcorn from the treats we’ve made others above? That stuff makes this trail mix so awesome.

  1. Holiday Gingerbread House Extravaganza

It’s never too early to start thinking about gingerbread houses! Those leftover candies make the perfect decorations. And the time spent building houses with the kids makes weekends a little more fun.

Now, if you’re like us, gingerbread houses are tough to bake, I’ve read somewhere that these things are expert level baking, and we’ll put that to the test one year, but I love buying gingerbread house kits and adding our own ingredients, such as left over Halloween candy (see what we did there!)

Your houses will look way more customized, more extravagant, and sometimes the spooky variations on the candy theme people bought this year, like spooky snickers with the green inside or like those Twix will come in handy making your haunted house feel a little creepier.

  1. Family Time Candy Exchange

If you’ve really gone overboard by buying too many bags of the same candy, we’ve all done it haha, might we suggest creating a little après-Halloween family candy exchange (or candy bonfire). Combo some of the earlier ideas and repackage some of the sweets and what’s better than having everyone over?

Everyone brings their leftovers and swaps for something new. It can be like trick-or-treating all over again!

  1. Last but certainly not least a fun Science Experiment

Okay, this one is mostly for the kids. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good candy science experiment? Melt some chocolate, dissolve some Skittles, or make gummy worms dance in vinegar. The possibilities are endless!

But we’re not talking about your average baking soda volcano here. We’re going for the truly bizarre, the oddly fascinating, the “wait, what just happened?!” kind of experiments.

Remember, safety first! Always supervise kids during these experiments, and make sure they don’t eat anything that’s been used in the experiment (unless it’s something you’d eat, of course).

So, there you have it! With these weird and wonderful candy experiments, you can turn your leftover Halloween stash into a science lab of sugary delights.

What are your favorite ways to use up leftover Halloween candy? Did we get you thinking of new ways to use this stuff?
