– Crunchy, Chewy & Better Than Store-Bought! | The Candy Champions

If you don’t mind a very quick story, this is how we came to making Twix today…

“Hey dad?”

(my son the other day)

“back in the olden times did you eat something called Twix?”

me – “what”

son – “like in 1400 did they have these chocolate things that had crunchy middles?”

That’s how it started.

Those of you with a 10 yr old boy probably can relate….

So, what did we do!? We slapped down some money for basic ingredients and we pulled some time away from YouTube so we can cook something, not necessarily quick, but somewhat easy and definitely fun.

Our kitchen turned into our imaginary factory and the excitement was through the roof. Twix has always been my favorite, a crispy cookie, gooey caramel, and chocolate coating combo. What could be better?

me – “let’s show you how in the olden times we had to walk uphill both ways for a simple treat!”

We rolled up our sleeves, cranked up some music, and got to work pressing the buttery shortbread base together. There was a little tussle over who got to spread the caramel, and the chocolate layer, but when that last chocolate layer started solidifying, smiles were seen all around the house.

One tip before you start: the caramel layer is where these go wrong. If you don't already own a candy thermometer, it's the single piece of kit that turns candy-making from guesswork into something repeatable.
